Cam Ward still wore a smile on very little sleep-just about 1½ hours-since he had boarded a private plane Friday morning and was headed to his new NFL destination in Music City. Just over 12 hours after he was picked first overall in the NFL Draft, turbulence found the plane on a sudden dip somewhere south of
Terre Haute, Indiana, and a joke from Ward lightened the atmosphere, as the 10 passengers on board-including mother, father, two sisters, and girlfriend-instantaneously braced themselves against the seats and gasped in unison. Ward is in Tennessee, wanting to make the most of his time with the Titans after an emotionally charged night.
“It’s been good, getting a chance to live in the moment, and now sitting on Miss Amy’s plane. I am happy I finally have a job now, and I am not unemployed any more.” Certainly, Ward has got himself a job and spared no time in getting down to business on Friday morning. His day began with an interview at 7 a.m. on Good Morning America, right after a quick hour and a half of sleep from 4 a.m. to 5.30 a.m.
He said with a smile, “I loved every moment of this draft, and I’m going to love what’s next. I was looking forward to this day for a long time. There are a lot of people in the building that I’ve met, and now I’m hoping some of my teammates will be in the building so I can meet them. I want to show those guys I am ready to work.” Ward and his family had been hoping for this all through the draft. Meanwhile, Ellyse Perry also confirmed her return to New South Wales.
Calvin Ward, Cam’s father, wore a Ward No.1 jersey under a tan jacket, while his mother, Patrice, wore a Titans pullover with ‘Cam’s Mom’ written on the front. She also wore bright shoes sporting the Titans’ colors and decorated with her son’s name. His two sisters, Chantel and Aaliyah, supported the Tennessee Titans, sporting matching shoes and hats.
