The Houston Rockets are adding veteran Dorian Finney-Smith to their roster. He declined his player option with the Lakers earlier this week. Now, he has agreed to a new four-year deal with Rocket worth $53 million, according to reports.

Houston has been one of the most aggressive teams this NBA summer. They traded Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, and the 10th overall pick to the Suns for Kevin Durant. It looks like Rockets management has decided that this season, their focus has shifted to adding veteran presence and established postseason performers. They re-signed Fred VanVleet and Steven Adams to keep their best veteran players.

Dorian averaged 8.7 points and 3.9 rebounds per game and shot 41.1 percent from three-point range. He joined the Lakers in an early-season trade. Many experts believed that his priority would be the Lakers, given his proximity to Luka Dončić. He played with Luka Dončić for four years in Dallas.

However, according to the report, the Lakers weren’t willing to give him a long-term deal, so he decided to look at his options in the open market. And it just so happened that the Rockets were willing to give the 32-year-old the kind of stability he wanted for himself. This switch also gives him a chance at the championship as well.

Houston is the third favorite to win the NBA championship next season and is considered one of the best teams in the league. Durant’s addition has boosted its standing in the league, but Dorian will also give them more options for rotation.
