Ovechkin vs. Gretzky: Goal Brings Scoring Record Closer Than Ever

    Ovechkin vs. Gretzky

Alex Ovechkin, often praised as the etalon forward of the Washington Capitals ranks among the most prominent ever in the records books of the NHL. He is one of the popular forwards who has made several records in the league.

However, still, he still has more goals than Wayne Gretzky Malcolm, lamented and motivated groans. He skips forward in the defense of Gretzky’s record in which he has 44 to 46 goals while Ovechkin is left with three more goals to break the record.

In such a situation, to score the above amount of goals before the 69 round of matches ends, he has to score, at least, only a mere 125 points. Alex Ovechkin is a man who sets goals and surpasses them. One of these is to outdo Gretzky, not just be equal to him but beat him.

To break Gretzky’s record for most goals in a career in the current season, Ovechkin still has a few more goals to score, 12 to be specific, within the next 24 league games.

During the 2023-24 campaign, Ovechkin struggled in comparison to other seasons scoring only thirty-one goals, which is his all-time low for an average season except for when he registered thirty-two goals in 2012-2013.

While he managed to score only twenty-four goals in the 2020-2021 season, that term experienced the impact of the spread of COVID-19. In the 2022-2023 season, from one year to another, the player enjoyed an incredible season as he scored 42 goals, whereas, in 13 of his 19 years playing in the NHL, he always managed to score at least 41 goals. In his career totalling 1597 points consisting of 883 goals and 714 assists, Ovechkin emerged as a star in the 2023-24 season. He became the only player to score a 30-goal season a record-breaking 18 times in the NHL and eclipsing Mike Gartner’s record of 17 seasons.
