Delivering on his promise, Noah Lyles brings back the success at 100 meters for the United States after 20 years in the Olympics. The breakout American star won his first gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics, winning by just .005 over Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson.
He became the fastest man in the world by setting a personal best of 9.784 seconds and barely edging Kishane Thompson with his time of 9.789 seconds. His fellow American Fred Kerley won the Bronze with 9.810 seconds.
The talented Olympian, whose specialty is the 200 meters, Lyles admitted that he underestimated his competitors in the first stages of qualifications of the 100 meters. However, his confidence, technique, and speed were up to mark when it mattered the most. It was a photo-finish victory for the US champion athlete.
He became the first American sprinter in 20 years to win the 100-meter title in the Olympics. Justin Gatlin won this event back in the 2004 Athens Olympics.
On Thursday, he will compete in the 200-meter title and will try to score gold as well. He can become the first sprinter to win 100 meters and 200 meters in the same Olympics since Usain Bolt did it in 2008, 2012, and 2016. The first American to achieve that feat was Carl Lewis in 1984.
Noah Lyles won the bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics in the 200 meters. That motivated him a lot to improve and take on this herculean task. He worked hard over the last three years and the result of that is in front of us.
He wanted to set a world record in the Olympics in 200 meters. He will also contest for the four medals as he plans to participate in the 4×100-meter relay and the 4×400-meter relay.
