The Test opener for India, Yashasvi Jaiswal, has informed the Mumbai Cricket Association that he will be available for the next Ranji match for Mumbai.
After Rohit Sharma, now Yashasvi Jaiswal is turning towards the domestic circuit as BCCI wants players to play in domestic matches.
Jaiswal was one of the only bright spots in the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. He had been instructed to report to the state team. Now, the young Indian opener will train with the Mumbai team at the Bandra Kurla Complex on Wednesday.
This new development in the cricket world is in line with the much-talked-about diktat from BCCI for Indian players to participate in domestic tournaments. The next match of Mumbai is scheduled for January 23 against Jammu and Kashmir. A day earlier, Rohit also joined the practice session with the Mumbai team.
If Rohit Sharma makes himself available for the selection, Mumbai will field a star-studded squad on January 23 that also includes the captain of Mumbai, Ajinkya Rahane.
Jaiswal isn’t part of the T20 squad for the five-match series against England that begins on January 22.
The current sentiment in the air is that the BCCI wants all centrally contracted players to participate in the domestic matches. This sentiment aligns with the head coach Gautam Gambhir’s remarks following the BGT series in Sydney. Gautam said, “I would always like everyone to play domestic cricket. That is how much importance domestic cricket needs to be given.”
So, a few players not part of the T20I series against England are expected to participate in the Ranji Trophy matches. According to the Punjab Cricket Association, Shubman Gill is likely to feature in the next game of Punjab against Karnataka in Bengaluru.
However, the question of Virat Kohli remains unanswered. It is still unknown whether Virat Kohli will play for Delhi or not in this leg of the Ranji Trophy.
