It looks like the San Antonio Spurs will get their most important player back for the 2025-26 season. Victor Wembanyama told L’Équipe that he has recovered from the blood clot in his shoulder last year. His injury sidelined him for the majority of the season; he played only 46 games.
Here is what he said via Maxime Aubin, “I’m officially cleared to return. It just happened — I got the green light from the Spurs’ medical staff just a few hours ago (last Friday. Phew, I’ll finally be able to play a bit of basketball again!”
The franchise announced the unfortunate news In February this year that Wembanyama would miss the rest of the season due to shoulder injury. His injury was discovered when he returned from the all-star weekend. The San Antonio team expressed full confidence that the star would make a full recovery before the next season starts. It looks like they had the right thinking as Wembanyama looks ready to go into the new season.
Before being injured, he averaged 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and a league-leading 3.8 blocks per contest. In each of his two NBA seasons, he has led the league in blocks. He was on track to win the Defensive Player of the Year before injury occurred.
The San Antonio Spurs ended up with 34-48 in the season, however, they are well-positioned for the future. With Wembanyama coming back to the team, they will pair him up with De’Aaron Fox and Dylan Harper.
