Veteran Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight Eryk Anders won his last fight against Brad Tavares via unanimous decision at UFC Vegas 114.
This match spoiled Tavares’ attempt to become the Middleweight division’s all-time wins leader.
After this victory, Anders decided to retire from the UFC. He laid down his gloves and handed them to his coach.
During the in-cage interview, he said, “That’s it for me, man.”
“I’ve had a hell of a career. I got a win out here in front of my son, so that’s huge for me. I just don’t have the balls for this stuff no more, man.”
Anders (18-9) now became a member of a select few players who retired after a victory. In the brutal world of mixed martial arts, that doesn’t happen often.
He entered the world of MMA with a lot of hype thanks to his background as a former linebacker for the Alabama Crimson Tide Football team. He was unable to reach a stage in his career when he could contend for a title. However, he has created a long and respectable career for himself in the world of MMA.
After just his third fight for the UFC, he headlined an event against Lyoto Machida. Then, the same happened when he played against Thiago Santos.
During this career, he earned four post-fight bonuses. This included two Fight of the Night awards.
The most famous victories of Anders have come against Gerald Meerschaert, Kyle Daukaus, and Chris Weidman. His last win against Tavares can also be counted as a famous one.
