At UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas, the most important fight was between Moicano vs Duncan.
This time, Renato Moicano bounced back and registered a win against Chris Duncan.
Renato came back to the win column with a sharp performance in the 155-pound category. He reminded us that he is still a factor in this division.
Before this fight, Renato was coming off back-to-back losses. However, those defeats came in top drawer fights. One was a short-notice title fight with Islam Makhachev, and the other was a hard-fought battle with Beneil Dariush.
On Saturday, he fought against his teammate at American Top Team, Chris Duncan. In that fight, Renato looked a step ahead of Duncan the whole time. He got a second-round submission to return to form in fine style.
Renato used an excellent snapping jab and consistently beat the opponent to the punch. After continuous punching throughout the first round and a half, he eventually got his man. He got Duncan to the mat and submitted him to a rear-naked choke.
In the post-fight interview, he called for an easy fight next time. We will wait and see who Renato will face in his next fight.
Abdul Rakhman Yakhyaev
Turkey’s Abdul Rakhman Yakhyaev is the new and dangerous contender for the light heavyweight division. He has enhanced his growing reputation with a first-round finish of Brendson Ribeiro.
In this fight, Abdul used his fight IQ to eliminate his opponent’s best chance of success and then finished him on the ground.
Yakhyaev tried to strike, but he switched gears after tasting a bit of Brazilian’s power. He smartly took Ribeiro to the mat and got him into a position where he could execute a rear-naked choke.
He is now an undefeated player with a 9-0 score. He has 8 finishes to his name. Well, if he continues to perform like that, it will be difficult to find a willing fighter to fight him.
Currently, he is an unranked fighter. However, it might not be long before he faces a ranked opposition. That will be his true test in the division.
