The stand-in captain of Rajasthan Royals, Riyan Parag has been fined INR 12 lakh for his team’s slow over rate during the IPL 2025 game against Chennai Super Kings in Guwahati.

The RR and CSK clash was scheduled to take place in Guwahati. In the match, RR registered their first win in this IPL season after coming from two heavy losses. A day earlier, Hardik Pandya was also penalized for the slow over-rate during Mumbai Indians match against Gujarat Titans. Since BCCI has done away with the over-rate offense rule, the latest offense will not lead to a ban for the captain. For this offense, there are now only fines and in-game restrictions.

Coming to the RR and CSK match, Rajasthan chose to go with three fast bowlers who bowled 11 overs combined. This hampered their stipulated time to complete the second innings. In the end, RR defended 19 runs off the final over to win the match.

Riyan Parag said that it took a lot of time to get to the win. “It was just two games, but it felt very long, Happy.”

“I think we were 20 short. The way we were going in the middle over, I think we lost a couple of wickets very quickly. I thought I was going to build up and then maybe switch out for the 16th over. But I felt 20 short, but we bowled really well.

“We’ve had two tough games, going for 280 and then not being able to defend 150. But that was the chat. Forget those games. Come with a fresher mindset. Let’s execute our plans and have a collective good game. So that’s what the boys did.”

Parag was leading the RR side with regular captain Sanju Samson recovering from the finger injury. Sanju was only featured in the matches as a batter.
