Riyan Parag to Lead RR for First Three Matches

It is reported that Riyan Parag will lead the RR unit for the first three matches of IPL 2025. It is also learned that Sanju Samson will feature in those matches but as a pure batter.

This could be due to the impact player rule. It is possible that Sanju might feature in the match as an impact player.

The news of Riyan Parag’s captaincy was revealed during a formal team discussion by Sanju. RR’s social media profiles posted that video for everyone to see. “I’m yet to be fully fit for the next three games,” said Samson while addressing the team.

“There are many leaders in this team. Over the last few years, there have been some great people who have taken care of this environment really nicely. For the next three games, Riyan will be leading the team. I expect everyone to support him and be with him.”

Samson is recovering from an injury to his right index finger, which he got during the home T20I series against England. After the injury, the Kerala batter had to undergo surgery for it. He has recovered quickly after the surgery. Parag will be leading the RR for the first three games, but Sanju will be attending the captain’s meet in Mumbai.

Samson’s injury was one of the focus points for Indian players in the lead-up to the IPL 2025. While he has recovered well from the injury, there is still some discomfort while keeping wickets. He has only been given a partial clearance to play as a batter as he has not recovered fully. According to the report, the regular RR captain will have to wait for the completion of the third match, after that, he can go to NCA for another fitness test for his keeping.
