The 23-year-old rookie Ricky Pearsall from the San Francisco 49ers was shot during an attempted robbery in the neighborhood of Union Square. The mayor of San Francisco, London Breed announced the news on Saturday.
According to the NBC Sports Bay Area, he was upgraded from “serious” to “fair” condition and the 49ers released a statement as well.
According to the statement from the 49ers, wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was released from the hospital this afternoon as he continues to recover from a bullet wound to the chest.
In the primary investigation, police found out that one man attempted to rob Pearsall. During this robbery, a physical altercation between the two occurred and both of them were injured. Police also have the suspect in custody, and both men were taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation. This is what San Francisco Police revealed in a statement.
Erin Pearsall, the mother of Ricky, also took to Facebook to share an update on this unfortunate incident. She said, “He was shot in the chest and it exited out his back. Thanks be to GOD it missed his vital organs. He is in good spirits right now.”
Police have identified a 17-year-old suspect in the shooting after he attempted to rob Pearsall at gunpoint. San Francisco Police Chief William Scott said that the suspect tried to rob Ricky, a struggle ensued, multiple shots were fired and both of the men were shot by the suspect’s gun.
The suspect was caught while trying to run away from the scene. He has been identified as a resident of Tracy, California. The name of the suspect has not been released by the district attorney’s office.
