Royal Challengers Bengaluru has decided to draft the English off-spinner Charlie Dean in place of Sophie Molineux for the upcoming season of Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025.
RCB announced on Thursday that they will be replacing the injured Sophie with Charlie Dean.
Sophie Molineux, one of the most promising talents from Australia, has given some of the best performances in 2024. She has performed extremely well in franchise cricket. Now, she has been ruled out of the WPL due to a bad knee injury.
Last year, the bowling all-rounder picked up 12 wickets in 10 games in the WPL 2024 season. She finished as the third-highest wicket-taker in the league. After that, she captained the Melbourne Renegades in the Women’s Big Bash League to the title. She also took 16 wickets in the tournament in just seven games.
Now, let’s look at what Charlie Dean has been doing for a year or so. She has featured in the 36 T20Is for England so far and has picked up 46 wickets with an economy rate of 6.91.
She was also part of the Women’s Hundred winning team last year. In that league, she took 7 wickets in the 10 games. Now, she has become one of the most reliable English players. In the recently concluded ODI series with South Africa, she was named player of the series. In that series, she took seven wickets in just 3 ODIs.
