The Miami Dolphins released Tyreek Hill on Monday and freed up over $20 million of salary cap space. There are rumors that Tua Tagovailoa could soon follow suit. But that doesn’t mean that the Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill pairing is done for good.
However, the Dolphins would prefer to trade him and not release him. For Tua, the best-case scenario would be that the Dolphins release him. In this case, his money is guaranteed, and he would have his pick of the team in the free agency market. There is no shortage of teams that would want a player of his calibre.
Now, let’s look at how Tua and Tyreek Hill can end up together. They can go to the New York Jets. The Jets have a capable WR1 on the roster already in the form of Garrett Wilson. Wilson and Hill could be a deadly combination. These two playing together will give the Jets an electric receiving corps for any quarterback they choose to sign. Hill would be an immediate upgrade over the likes of Metchie III and Josh Reynolds.
So, if the Jets pursue these players, they would want to grab Tua Tagovailoa first. We know that the NFL is a quarterback-driven league, and we don’t have many good ones available in this offseason. Tua is one of the best ones available in free agency or on the trade market. The NFL Draft also doesn’t offer much hope beyond Fernando Mendoza. Also, the Raiders are likely to pick him in the draft.
If Tagovailoa is released, he can sign with any NFL team he wants. This list includes the Jets. If Tangovailoa found his way to the New York Jets somehow while Hill is still on the market, then it would be in New York’s interest to sign Hill also. This duo is not a perfect pair, but they work well together.
