After an impressive performance against Everton, Max Dowman is on everyone’s mind.
After the game on Saturday, Mikel Arteta, the coach of Arsenal, has hinted that Max Dowman could play a bigger role in future matches.
Dowman was just 16 years and 73 days old when he scored a goal in the Premier League. He became the youngest ever player to score a goal in the league.
He scored the second goal of the game, which Arsenal won 2-0. He was also instrumental in creating the first goal for the team.
At such a young age, he was making his seventh senior appearance. It’s only his third league match. However, he proved to be an important asset for Arsenal as he swung the match in their favor. Manchester City drew their match later in the day. This extended their lead at the top of the table to nine points.
They are set to face Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday in the Champions League round of 16.
Mikel was asked if Dowman was ready for more regular matches for the team. He said, “Yeah, regularly, depending on what you call regularly.”
“Depending on the game and how he reacts, I think his reaction has been really positive, and in relation to what we need in the game, there’s always a possibility [he will play].”
“To do what he did in such a moment, very rare to see or impossible almost. He’s done it, and now it’s football, and what you’ve done a few days ago is not relevant anymore, it’s about the next one.”
A few players, including Martin Odegaard and Jurriën Timber, are injured. However, Arteta suggested that both have a chance of featuring in the game against City.
Leandro Trossard has also recovered from a hip problem that made him miss many matches.
