The New York Mets have lost another pitcher to injury this season. It is now reported that right-hander Tylor Megill was placed on the 15-day injured list with an elbow sprain. The team announced this news on Tuesday.

Right-hander Justin Garza was called up in response to this news. Speaking to SNY, Megill said that the MRI revealed “a lot of inflammation around the elbow.”

He said that his UCL is structurally sound and he will rest for 7-10 days. Manager Carlos Mendoza said the best-case scenario is he misses 4-5 weeks.

Last week, right-hander Kodai Senga was placed on the injured list after straining his hamstring leaping for a ball at first base. They are also without Sean Manaea and Frankie Montas, however, these two are currently on minor-league rehab assignments. Christian Scott will miss the season with Tommy John surgery.

They have five players missing out due to being placed on the injured list. Mendoza said that Manaea and Montas are not in the running to replace Megill in the next turn. Instead, they will call up a spot starter. So, It is possible for Blade Tidwell to get the go-ahead as he made a spot start for the Mets earlier this season. Justin Hagenman and Brandon Waddell have also come up to make the long relief appearances.

This season, Megill has a 3.95 ERA with 89 strikeouts in 14 starts and 68 ⅓ innings. He had a very good start to the season and pitched to a 1.74 ERA in his first six starts, though it’s a 5.79 ERA in his last eight times out. This elbow injury is the first of Megill’s career.
