The New York Giants met the New York Jets on August 12, 2025, at the Jets’ training complex at Florham Park, the first of two joint practice sessions scheduled for this week. Coming off a preseason victory against Buffalo with a score of 34–25, the Giants entered the field with a sense of momentum; it was, however, their defense that really made an effective statement.

Due to injuries or rest, many key players from the Giants, including wide receivers Malik Nabers, Jalin Hyatt, and Beaux Collins; running back Cam Skattebo; and defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, among others across the team, were noticeably missing.

Still, the defense grabbed the chance with amazing speed, even though it had such major omissions. Edge rusher Brian Burns and linebacker Abdul Carter relentlessly pressured Jets quarterback Justin Fields, often bringing him down or forcing him into hurried passes. Fields experienced many sacks, which emphasized the Giants’ front seven’s dominance in the 11-on-11 exercises.

The Giants’ offense produced somewhat inconsistent performances. While quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jaxson Dart had both highs and lows, Dart’s link with Theo Johnson among them, red zone drives kept proving to be a persistent difficulty. Though thankfully no major fights broke out, brief arguments erupted on the field.

The momentum is scheduled to change on Wednesday as the sides meet again for the second joint session at the Giants’ East Rutherford facility. Moreover, all focus is now on Saturday’s preseason game at MetLife Stadium, where both teams will get the chance to test their starters in a game-like setting.

Day one of the joint practice, in essence, showed the Giants’ defensive ability, especially in their pass rush, while also revealing the areas where the offense needs improvement, specifically inside the red zone. Both teams have plenty of opportunities to sharpen their talents, given more work in advance and a game looming ahead.
