Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) has now officially named Rishabh Pant as captain of their team for the IPL 2025.

Pant was an essential part of the Delhi Capitals. However, he chose to enter the auction ahead of the 18th season of this illustrious tournament. In the IPL auction 2025, he became the most expensive buy in IPL history. LSG secured the services of Pant for a whopping INR 27 Crore.
When Pant entered the auction at a base price of 2 Crore, LSG started a bidding war. At INR 20.75 Crore, LSG won Rishabh Pant, but Delhi Capitals used the RTM. So, Super Giants then hiked the price to INR 27 Crore to secure the services of Rishabh. According to a new rule in this auction, the original bidder was allowed to raise the price after the use of RTM. That’s how LSG got Rishabh.
The moment they entered the auction, they were on the lookout for a new captain. They had let go of KL Rahul. Rishabh Pant was the first buy by the LSG in the auction and then they created a squad around him. In the new-look squad, they have India-dominated pace attack.
This will be the second captaincy assignment for Pant in the IPL. Previously, he had captained Delhi Capitals from IPL 2021 until last season. However, he missed the entire IPL 2023 due to an accident.
Before the auction, LSG retained Nicholas Pooran for 21 Cr, Ravi Bishnoi for 11 Cr, Mayank Yadav for 11 Cr, Mohsin Khan for 4 Cr, and Ayush Badoni for 4 Cr. Then, they roped in some big names like Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh, and David Miller from the auction. They also added the services of Avesh Khan and Akash Deep in the bowling department.
In the LSG team, Rishabh will be working with head coach Justin Langer and mentor Zaheer Khan.
