The Minnesota Vikings announced that rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy will undergo surgery. They announced on Monday that the rookie quarterback will have surgery for a torn meniscus in the right knee.

The surgery will sideline him for an undetermined amount of time, as reported by ESPN.

According to NFL media, the tests on McCarthy’s sore knee revealed a meniscus issue. He would reportedly miss a few weeks if it is only a meniscus trim. However, if it’s a repair, he would miss at least a few months.

With this coming to us, it looks like Sam Darnold will be the starting quarterback of the Vikings this 2024 season.

On Monday, he reported a soreness on his knee and was advised to not practice. According to head coach Kevin O’Connell, McCarthy had “some kind of routine soreness that a lot of guys after their first preseason game sometimes come in with, and it was something we wanted to be smart about.”

He also said, “Out of precaution, we’re going to continue an evaluation on him and get some more testing done. [He is a] very important player, obviously, so we want to make sure we’re smart before he participates, making sure we have a good understanding of where he’s at.”

So, the tests revealed that there was some bad news for the player. However, it is not clear yet, how much time he will be sidelined from the team.

Minnesota is already dealing with the absence of one of their most important players, T.J. Hockenson. He is still out from the team with the ACL team suffering late last season.
