BCCI has decided to tweak the start date of IPL 2025. Now, the 18th season of IPL will start on March 21 in Kolkata.
Cricbuzz has reported that the final is likely to be held on May 25 at the same venue. According to them, there are two versions regarding the change of schedule. Ahead of the IPL auction 2025 in Jeddah, BCCI communicated to the franchises that Friday, March 14 is going to be the start date. At that time, they also announced the dates for the next two IPL seasons as well.
But now it is being suggested that those dates were an indication of the window being reserved for the season and not the actual schedule of the tournament. It is also learned that the delay to the actual start from the tentative dates is due to a request from broadcasters. It is believed that broadcasters have sought a later date due to the Champions Trophy final, which is slated for March 9.
It is also believed that Eden Gardens will host the first and final match of the league as they were the winners of the 2024 edition of the league. The Hyderabad ground is likely to host the two playoff games. Sunrisers Hyderabad were the runners-up for the last season.
We should expect that the BCCI will release the exact schedule in the coming days.
