Prior to the NBA Draft 2025, the Memphis Grizzlies traded Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic. At that time, some people wondered if they were open to listening to their own stars. However, there were reports of Grizzlies focusing their efforts this summer to make enough space for Jaren Jackson Jr.

It is reported that the two sides were finalizing a five-year deal. It was reported way back, but now it is confirmed that they agreed to sign a $240 million max extension with an option in the final year for the player. Jackson was supposed to enter unrestricted free agency next summer without a new deal.

Jackson has been one of the best players in the last couple of years. He was the defensive player of the year in 2023. He also had a career-best year in 2024-25, averaging 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, and 1.2 steals per game on 48.8/37.5/78.1 shooting splits in 74 games played. It also earned him All-Star honors for the first time. His performance made him the most valuable piece in the Grizzlies’ arsenal.

According to a report, the Grizzlies aren’t done with just signing Jaren; they also agreed to a new three-year contract worth $52 million with restricted free agent Santi Aldana in Memphis. It was expected that Aldana would receive offers from other teams if the Grizzlies weren’t willing to pick him up.

Aldana also had the best season last year, just like Jackson Jr. He averaged 12.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game on 48.3/36.8/69.1 shooting splits.

Apart from Aldana, they’ve also worked out a new two-year deal with Cam Spencer worth $4.5 million.
