The Georgia team has suspended the wide receiver from the team indefinitely. According to 247Sports, Rara Thomas was arrested on Friday morning by Athens-Clarke County Police on a felony charge of cruelty to children (second-degree, family violence) and two misdemeanor charges of battery (family violence).
According to the jail logs, he is still incarcerated in the facility.
This is his second arrest in similar incidents. He was also detained in January 2023 on a felony charge of imprisonment and a misdemeanor charge of family violence. However, the charges were later dismissed in a deal between Thomas and the district attorney.
Thomas Transferred to Georgia in 2023 portal transfer after his two-year stint at Mississippi State. In his first season with the team, he played 11 games with the program. There he logged 23 catches for 383 yards and one touchdown. He was sidelined for three games with a broken foot.
It was expected that he would be an integral part of Georgia’s passing game this season after star tight end Brock Bowers and WR Ladd McConkey decided to leave the NFL.
He had 62 catches for 878 yards and 12 touchdowns in two seasons at Mississippi State before his move to Georgia.
