We all saw the uncertainty over George Pickens’ situation with the Dallas Cowboys has been going on for weeks. It is fueled by the constant debate and unanswered questions. However, it looks like that saga is over now.
According to USA Today, the wide receiver was present at The Star in Frisco on Monday, June 15. This alleviates concerns about whether he would show up for the Dallas mandatory minicamp later this week.
Even the Dallas Cowboys’ official Twitter handle posted this.
This move has alleviated the tension between Pickens and the Cowboys. In April, the executive vice president, Stephen Jones, announced that contract extension talks would be postponed until after the upcoming season.
Since then, Pickens has signed a non-exclusive contract that would guarantee him $27.3 million for the 2026 season.
Pickens also avoided a hefty fine by reporting to the team that would have come if he had chosen to skip the mandatory minicamp.
Todd Archer, an NFL insider, detailed the financial benefit of Pickens going to the minicamp. Here is what he wrote, “With the Cowboys holding their mandatory minicamp this week, George Pickens has arrived at The Star today to take his physical, per source.”
“By taking part in camp, he avoids a fine. Brian Schottenheimer said last week, Pickens’ work would be limited after missing voluntary work.”
A debate ensued on the online forums, after Pickens skipped voluntary team activities, about whether he might be willing to pay the fines as a way of making a statement to the franchise.
When asked earlier this month, Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer downplayed the situation and said he is confident in the return of Pickens. He said, “I expect he’ll be here. I think he’s in a good spot, but again, I know he’s handling his business. I know he misses his teammates (and) we miss him, too.”
After a trade with Pittsburgh, Pickens delivered his career-best performance for the Cowboys with 93 receptions, 1,429 yards, and nine scores.
Despite such a performance from Pickens, the Cowboys were unable to capitalize and missed out on their chance to qualify for the playoffs.
