Andy Dalton will now spend his time this year with a new team.
According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the Philadelphia Eagles are acquiring the veteran quarterback from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a 2027 seventh-round pick. The physical is pending for this trade.
The 38-year-old player has spent the last three years with the Carolina Panthers. At the start of his career, he played as the Cincinnati Bengals’ starter in the first nine seasons. After that, he went from one team to another for around four years. He moved from the Dallas Cowboys to the Chicago Bears to the New Orleans Saints before settling with the Panthers.
It is great news for Philadelphia as they can bolster their QB room behind Jalen Hurts. Also, giving up a seventh-round pick a year from now seems like a reasonable price.
According to NFL insider Mike Garafolo, Tanner McKee is their number 2 QB choice. Dalton is their backup option, just in case of an emergency requirement.
In the 2024 season, Carolina benched Bryce Young in favor of Dalton heading into week 3. After that, Andy started the next five contests, going 1-4 while throwing for 989 yards, seven touchdowns, and six interceptions with an 82.5 passer rating. Dalton injured his thumb in a car crash, and that’s when the reins were handed back to Bryce Young.
In a match when he started in place of Young (Bryce was offered for the game), the team lost the game 40-9 to the Buffalo Bills. In that game, he threw for 175 yards and a pick of 16-of-20 passing.
He has 39,793 passing yards, 254 TDs, and 151 INTs in his career. He also made three Pro Bowls and 84-83-2 record.
Dalton will be a third option for the Panthers rather than a primary backup. So, it is less likely that he will add to these numbers in the future. However, the Panthers will be happy with keeping him as an option should the need arise.
