Gurjapneet Singh, the Tamil Nadu pacer was bought by Chennai in the IPL auction 2025 for INR 2.2 crore, but he did not get a game this season. Now, he has been injured during practice.

It is learned that Chennai Super Kings has signed South African batter Dewald Brevis as the replacement for Gurjapneet for the remainder of the IPL. He will be part of the CSK setup for INR 2.2 crore.

Brevis has played 81 T20s and has made 1787 runs with a high score of 162. Previously, he represented Mumbai Indians and played with them from 2022 and 2024. With them, he played only 10 matches in the IPL. In those 10 matches, he has 230 runs at a strike rate of 133.72.

Apart from IPL, he has been playing in various T20 leagues around the world including CPL, MLC, and SA20. He was the sixth-highest run-getter in the latest SA20 season. He made 291 runs at a strike rate of 184.17.

In the IPL auction 2025, Brevis entered with high hopes with a base price of INR 75 Lakh. However, there were no buyers for him in the IPL despite being in good form in the last few months. After that, he carried that form to the domestic season in South Africa and had a good season with the Titans.

Gurjapneet is not going to be a part of the CSK setup this year. Dewald Brevis will replace him. However, it will be interesting to see whether Brevis gets a game or not.

CSK is not doing well in this year’s IPL, currently, they are at the bottom of the table. They need someone like Dewald, a fearless hitter who can play 360 degrees.

Earlier, Ruturaj Gaikwad got injured and MS Dhoni took over as captain of the team. They signed Ayush Mhatre as a replacement for Ruturaj.
