American golfer Cameron Young has finally won his first PGA Tour championship, finishing six strokes ahead at the Wyndham Championship hosted in Greensboro, North Carolina. Having shot two-under 68 throughout the last round on Sunday at Sedgefield Country Club, the 28-year-old finished the competition at an amazing 22 under par.

Having seven second-place finishes throughout his PGA Tour career, Young started the last day five strokes ahead. Even if he lost a few shots on the 16th and 17th holes, his early lead was insurmountable for the contenders trailing behind him.

Young’s remarks about his much-anticipated triumph on his 94th PGA Tour appearance said, “This moment means everything.” He has been waiting for the moment for quite some time. There was someone else who was waiting for an opportunity as well, a US amateur champ Jose Luis Ballester joined LIV Golf.

Mac Meissner stood second on the leaderboard with a score of 16 under; Sweden’s Alex Noren tied for third at 15 under, sharing the position with American Mark Hubbard. A strong international presence was noticed, with England’s Aaron Rai finishing at 14 under alongside compatriots Matt Fitzpatrick (-13), Harry Hall (-11), and Matt Wallace (-8), who all showed respectable performances.

This victory of Cameron Young is not only special for him, but is also a landmark historical event since he is the 1,000th tour unique winner in the PGA Tour’s history. As the Ryder Cup nears in September, he is now concentrating on earning a spot on Team USA. “It would be an honor to represent my nation,” he said. “That team is the goal for many of us.”

The Wyndham Championship was the last Professional Golfers’ Association of America (PGA) Tour regular season event, and after this, the top 70 golfers in the FedEx Cup standings qualified for the playoffs. The playoffs will start with the St. Jude Championship in Memphis, Tennessee. Matti Schmid from Germany just barely made it into the playoff field.
