Calf Strain Rules Out Josh Inglis for Border Gavaskar Trophy

Josh Inglis has suffered the injury while serving as a substitute during the ongoing Test match between India and Australia in Melbourne. He suffered a low-grade calf strain in the match.

Australia could have pushed into calling up a spare batter to the squad but they have not decided that yet.

The 29-year-old batter was the only spare batter in the squad this week as the all-rounder Beau Webster was released by the team to play in the Big Bash League. It is interesting to note that Inglish also played two BBL games for the Perth Scorchers between the third and fourth Tests of the current BGT series. Once the fourth test started, returned to national duties.

Now that Inglis is out of the squad, this could pave the way back for Nathan McSweeney, who was left out in favor of Sam Konstas before this Test. Well, there is an outside chance of Nathan getting a place in the team for the fifth and final Test match if Australia decides to pick an extra batter instead of an all-rounder. However, it is unlikely that McSweeney will be preferred.

Given the fitness concerns and increased workloads for Mitchell Starc, Australia could go with Sean Abbott and Jhye Richardson, who are already in the team.

Australia is set to play two match test series after the India series finishes. He will have to race against time to make himself available for the squad being sent to Sri Lanka. He is one of the batters in the Australian team who can negate the spin challenge in Sri Lanka.

The Australian Squad is scheduled to have a pre-tour camp in UAE before the first Test in Galle, Sri Lanka.
