Jasprit Bumrah was named in the provisional squad for the Champions Trophy 2025. It is learned that now he has been ruled out of the 2025 Champions Trophy with a back injury. BCCI revealed this on Tuesday and Harshit Rana has been named the replacement for Bumrah in the eight-team event.
Just about a month ago, Bumrah was the star performer in India’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. He was even captaining the team in the final Test match in Sydney. There, he had to leave the field midway on Day 2 due to a back injury concern and didn’t bowl for the rest of the match.
After that, India played against England in January and February 2025 at home. Bumrah was initially named in the third ODI squad against England but the recovery process has extended.
The team also named Varun Chakravarthy in the squad in place of Yashasvi Jaiswal. Jaiswal was part of the initial squad but they didn’t need a batter. Varun has been playing some of the best cricket of his life right now. He was selected in the England T20I and impressed us all. He topped the bowling charts in the T20I series with 14 wickets in five matches.
His superlative performance earned him an ODI call against England. He was a last-minute inclusion in the team. He only got to play in one ODI and took 1 wicket by giving away 54 runs.
Harshit Rana, the player replacing Bumrah, is also a newcomer in the international circuit. He also made his international debut last November in the Border Gavaskar series. He has become the only Indian player to take three wickets on his debut in each format of the game.
