The Miami Heat star, Bam Adebayo, recorded a historic score of 83 points in the game against the Washington Wizards. His extraordinary performance helped Miami register a 150-129 blowout victory.
At the Kesaya Center, something got into the body of Bam Adebayo on Tuesday night. He could do nothing wrong on the night. Bam was just in his zone and played some extraordinary basketball.
With 83 points, Adebayo made history by becoming only the second player to score 83 or more points in a single NBA game. The record is held by Wilt Chamberlain when he scored 100 points in a game in 1962.
With this, he also surpassed former Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant. Bryant scored 81 in a game in 2006.
Have a look at what Adebayo said about it. To be 83 and passing [Bryant], in my mind, it’s like, what would he say to me? Because I’ve always wanted to have a conversation with him.”
“He’ll probably say, ‘Go do it again.’”
“Just a surreal moment being in the company with somebody that you idolized growing up.”
Previously, there had only been 15 instances of more than 70-point games in NBA history. Before this, Luka Dončić achieved this with the Dallas Mavericks in 2024.
Adebayo is one of the 11 players to reach this magical 70 number milestone. Among active players, he is one of six. In this season, the previous high was 56 by Nikola Jokić.
Bam Adebayo drops 83 points in historic outing
He finished the first quarter with 31 points. Then, he added 12 more in the second quarter and ended up with 43 points at halftime. In the first 24 minutes, he made five three-pointers.
His previous best was 41 points for a whole game. So, he had already accomplished more than that by the time he was back in the locker room at halftime.
You can guess from the score that Adebayo accounted for much of the team’s offense in the first half. When they had gone to the second half, the Heat was leading by 14 points. Along with Adebayo, Simone Fontecchio was the other player with a double-digit (11) score in the first half.
Adebayo didn’t slow down even in the second half. He got going and ended the third quarter with 62 points. With this aggression, he also helped the Heat get into the driver’s seat.
It was his night as he kept going in the fourth quarter as well. After the conclusion of the game, he ended up with 83 points.
After the 83 points, head coach Eric Spoelstra removed Adebayo from the contest. Eric said he “for damn sure” wasn’t going to take him out of the game right until the very end.
“This one just kind of snuck up on us. It snuck up on all of us,” Spoelstra said. “Once it just kept on going, we knew we possibly could be a part of something really special. Didn’t really think it would necessarily be historic until he got to 70. … Then you’re caught up in the moment like everyone else, and I didn’t want to get in the way.”
