India Women team is playing a T20I series against South Africa. The third T20I of the series between these two teams followed the same script, where South Africa dominated India with an emphatic win.
In this match, India batted first and set a target for South Africa. This time, however, India played much better than in the first two games to set an imposing total on the board.
However, the home side chased down 192 runs within 17 overs. The South African captain, Laura Wolvaardt, scored a majestic ton in this game to give her team a thumping win.
Leading up to the game, the surface was covered up. With this information, the South African skipper didn’t hesitate to bowl first after winning the toss.
Indian opening pair Smriti Mandhana and Shefali Verma started well and went on to record a partnership of 68 for the first wicket.
After scoring 51 runs in the power play on the back of a couple of boundaries by Shaefali and Smriti, India lost a couple of wickets in the form of Smriti and Jemimah.
After that, Shefali started to accelerate her innings and brought up an impressive half-century. Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur took her time to get going at the other end and was already well set before the death overs.
Harmanpreet, along with Richa Ghosh, batted well in the death overs and played some nice shots for sixes and fours to take India’s total past 190 runs.
In response, South Africa came out all guns blazing and raced to 26/0 just after the second over. At that time, Sune Luus was pretty was a spectator at the other end as Wolvaardt was taking charge against Indian bowlers.
Laura brought her fifty within the powerplay with the help of 9 fours and 2 sixes in just 23 balls.
Within the first 10 overs, South Africa raced to 115 without the loss of any wickets. Now, South Africa was controlling the game, and only a miracle could’ve saved India.
In the next few overs, SA batters scored at will and completed their personal milestones. Wolvaardt completed her blazing century in a T20I game, and Sune Luus scored a half-century.
Shreyanka Patil did get the wicket of Wolvaardt in the 16th over, but by then the match was almost over. Wolvaardt made a breathtaking 115.
Just after seven balls, South Africa won the game without breaking a sweat. With this win, South Africa also won the series with ease.
