While addressing a press briefing on Monday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt referred to President Donald Trump as someone who should ‘share the glory’ with Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders for having the team finish last after four rounds. Asked whether the president believed he deserved some credit for Sanders being drafted by the Cleveland Browns as a son of football coach Deion Sanders, Leavitt laughed. He said that what he can reveal is that the president issued a statement, and shortly after, he was picked, therefore, he believes that the evidence speaks for itself now.

Thus, on Friday, Trump heckled both Deion and Shedeur Sanders in an entry on Truth Social, raising a question as to why NFL owners should still be such ‘STUPID’ in him. “What is wrong with NFL owners, are they STUPID?” Trump wrote. “He should be picked IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN.” Eventually, Shedeur got picked as No. 144 in the draft by the Cleveland Browns on Saturday.

Although there was much hype regarding him to be among the top picks in several mock drafts leading to the 2025 NFL draft, the former University of Colorado quarterback didn’t get selected in the first four rounds. According to scouts, his prospects for the draft were slightly dulled due to his physical limitations. While he demonstrates excellent touch and is a remarkable game processor, he lacks elite athleticism, and concerns have been raised about his arm strength and speed.

Nor was this the only reason behind his plummet to the fifth round- it is an extremely competitive sport in the NFL, but necessary to master advanced analytics that are shaping NFL team strategies. Then, of course, came the argument that his father, Shedeur Sanders, and his team’s overall approach to the draft process did not merit proper leaving.
