Varun Aaron, one of the few fast bowlers from India who can clock 150 kmph, has announced his retirement from all-professional cricket.
His decision to retire comes after the exit of Jharkhand from the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. The 35-year-old pacer has already given up on red-ball cricket in the 2023-24 season. Now, he has announced his retirement from the white-ball formats as well.
In the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, he took three wickets at 53.33 from four games.
Here is what he wrote on his social media platform.
“For the past 20 years, I have lived, breathed, and thrived on the rush of bowling fast. Today, with immense gratitude, I officially announce my retirement from representative cricket.”
“As I bid farewell to a pursuit that has consumed me completely, I now look forward to savoring the smaller joys in life while staying deeply connected to the game that has given me everything. Fast bowling has been my first love, and though I step off the field, it will always be a part of who I am.”
A few days ago, Rishi Dhawan, an all-rounder, also retired from limited-overs cricket as well.
Varon Aaron came to the limelight in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in the 2010-11 season. At that time, he breached the 150 kmph mark on the speed gun. That got everyone talking about the youngster.
Some years later, he made his debut for India and played ODI and Test cricket. Across formats, he played 18 games and took 29 wickets. He last played for India in 2015 in a Test match against South Africa in 2015.
