Thunder Lock Up Third Star as Williams Agrees to $287 Million Extension

The Oklahoma City Thunder have been at it in locking their core of the last season, who’ve had a great championship run. Earlier, they signed NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to a four-year, $285 million extension. They also signed center Chet Holmgren to a fully guaranteed five-year extension worth $250 million.

Now, it is reported that they’ve agreed to a deal with Jalen Williams for a five-year extension that is worth $287 million. The agent of Williams has told ESPN. So, the big three players are locked in for the Oklahoma City Thunder for multiple years.

When talking about Williams, he averaged 21.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.6 steals per game in his third NBA season. He also earned his first all-star appearance. He was also named All-NBA third team and was a second-team All-Defense selection. Williams and Gilgeous-Alexander became the fourth All-NBA duo under 27 years old to win a championship. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson were the last duo to win the championship with the Golden State Warriors in 2015.

Williams became just the second player to ever win a title in the same year that he averaged at least 20 points, five rebounds, and five assists in his age-23 or younger season. The other player is the legendary Kobe Bryant, who did it twice. Recently, Williams explained that prior to the playoffs, he completely tore the scapholunate ligament in his right wrist on April 9. Williams never missed game action while the Thunder captured the moment and ultimately the title.
