There is an official directive for Indian players to play domestic cricket when available.

According to Indian selector, Ajit Agarkar, “It’s not a diktat, but I think everyone should play when available.” He defended the directive for international players to participate in domestic cricket. Now, a host of Indian international cricketers have started to appear in the Ranji matches.

At least players from the India internationals are playing for the Ranji trophy in just three weeks after the Border Gavaskar trophy. Apart from physical fitness, there are also factors like mental readiness and adaptability to the different formats.

There is going to be a spotlight on players like Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravindra Jadeja, and Virat Kohli. These are the international stars set to feature in the next Ranji fixtures.

However, the question remains, is it reasonable to expect these players to play Ranji so soon? The things to consider here are the adjustment that is needed in the assignments after intense series like the Border Gavaskar trophy. This series could have taken a heavy toll on players like Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Both players are set to feature in the game starting this Thursday. Both players practiced at BKC ground in Mumbai.

Rahane said that the adjustment from the red ball to the white ball is not going to be difficult for a professional cricketer. “I don’t think it’s difficult as long as you are ready to accept the situation and be prepared for the changes.”

The Mumbai captain is happy that both Rohit and Jaiswal are part of the Mumbai team for the upcoming match. “Firstly I think it’s good to have Rohit back after so many years playing for Mumbai. I mean everyone can learn from him. And so personally I’m really happy that Rohit is back. It’s (also) good to have Jaiswal, who’s really hungry to score runs. These things will really impact all the youngsters in the dressing room.”
