In the upcoming county season, Shardul Thakur is all set to represent Essex. The Indian all-rounder has signed a seven-match deal with Essex for the initial half of the 2025-26 season.

It will be the first county experience for Shardul Thakur and he is excited to play in the county as well.

He said, “I am feeling excited to join Essex this summer. Personally, it brings new challenges and opportunities to showcase my talent and skills.”

“County cricket is something I always wanted to experience and I am glad that I’ll be representing the Eagles.”

Shardul Thakur made India debut in 2017. He has been in and out of the team across formats. He didn’t get a consistent run like other players. He hasn’t played for India since the last test match of 2023 against South Africa in Centurion.

This news comes at a time when Shardul has been grinding hard in domestic cricket. He has been in good form for Mumbai. His all-round abilities have been pivotal for Mumbai to reach knockouts this season.

His ability to bat lower down the order and send some threatening deliveries makes him a great prospect for any team. This has been his bread and butter for all formats in the domestic circuit. Due to this unique ability Shardul, the Director of Cricket at Essex is excited to have him on board. Essex is a team that wants batting depth and for that, they require great all-rounders down the order.

Here is what Chris Silverwood, the Director of Cricket, said.

“We were very clear amongst ourselves that a high-quality quick bowler, with lower-order batting ability, was a key target for the Club this winter.

“In Shardul, we have signed just that, and we can’t wait to welcome him to Essex and see how he gets on in the County Championship.”
