One team had started to distinguish itself via a topsy-turvy 2025 normal season: the Rams. Many experts and supporters predicted them as the frontrunners for the championship after a dominant blowout victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 12. But it was painfully obvious by Week 13; this season, no team is untouchable.
The match on Sunday emphasized that hard truth. The Los Angeles Rams lost to the Carolina Panthers by 31-28, highlighting a squad that had seemed directionless only a few days ago.

Los Angeles’s quarterback, Matthew Stafford, threw two interceptions that included a pick-six and coughed up an expensive fumble in the late third quarter.
The offensive rhythm was lost, and the defense was unable to contain Carolina during crunch time. The last thread was a 43-yard touchdown pass on fourth down from Carolina’s Bryce Young to Tetairoa McMillan, in the fourth quarter.
Does this loss break the Super Bowl favourite illusion?
Given the Rams’ fall, the idea that one team could steamroll toward the title now appears improbable. Four other ‘top contenders’ also lost in Week 13: the Kansas City Chiefs, Detroit Lions, Baltimore Ravens, and Philadelphia Eagles; none showed conclusive form.
The outcome: this year may not have a clear dominant team. Rather, a winner could arise just from being the least inconsistent. That volatility welcomes uncertainty.
Durability and consistency, that is, steering clear of “blow-up” performances, may surpass sheer talent or media buzz as the playoffs near. Teams like the Rams still have a chance, but with their flaws revealed, nothing is assured. The error margin has decreased.
While the Rams suffered a hit, some teams, including the San Francisco 49ers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, showed evidence of resurgence, either through great defense or returning from injury.

Conversely, teams such as the Indianapolis Colts and the Tennessee Titans saw their organizational stability and playoff prospects suffer.
