Just a year after a career-high performance with the Los Angeles Rams, Ernest Jones IV is going to be traded.
There were potentially stagnant discussions over a potential long-term contract with the team. Now, the reports are coming in that the linebacker has been traded to the Tennessee Titans as part of the club’s final roster cutdown. This news is reported by ESPN.
According to NFL media, in exchange for Jones, the Titans are sending a 2026 fifth-round pick to the Rams and a 2026 sixth-rounder as well.
The 24-year-old entered the final year of his rookie contract with the Rams and received permission to seek a trade after extension talks did not go further. Earlier this offseason, he acknowledged that he was seeking a pay raise on a new deal and insisted that he wanted to stay with the Rams. But he also noted that the business side of negotiations could also make him change the scenery.
After his departure, the team would definitely notice a space in the Ram’s defense. They also lost Aaron Donald to retirement this offseason. Tennessee added a big-name player to their roster with Jones. They also added veterans like L’Jarius Sneed, Jamal Adams, and Quandre Diggs to a rebuilt defense this summer.
Jones made a splash with his performance in 2021 with the Rams’ linebacker rotation and recorded two interceptions and four pass backups. By 2022, he became a key part of their defense as he topped the season with more than 100 tackles. In 2023, he posted 145 tackles.
