Pelicans guard Dejounte Murray suffers a fractured left hand during a game against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, he is expected to be sidelined for “an extended period of time.”

Murray made his debut with the New Orleans Pelicans in this match. Only about two minutes left in the fourth quarter when an injury happened to Murray. The former All-Star went up for a 3-pointer with his team leading by 12. However, he was contested by Zach LaVine and then took a hard fall to his left. That’s when he suffered a fractured left hand.

Check out the play where he hurt himself.

Pelicans were short handed on the day as Zion Williamson was out with an illness. Trey Murphy missed the game as he is going through with a hamstring strain. The Pelicans even beat those odds and dominated the game to beat the Bulls 123-111. All thanks to Murray as he contributed 14 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds to the game.

Murray came to the Pelicans this season in an offseason trade with the Atlanta Hawks. To close that deal, Pelicans gave up two key reserves Larry Nance Jr. and Dyson Daniels. Jonas Valanciunas and Naji Marshall of the Pelicans also left the team in free agency.

So, they consciously sacrificed depth for a top-heavy team this year. This would be great if their players stay healthy and perform consistently. However, the Pelicans have not done well on that front.

We cannot say for certain how much time Murray needs to be completely healthy as a return time varies for a fracture like that.

We are also worried about how much time the Pelicans could spend without a starting point guard.
