The Green Bay Packers are releasing two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander as confirmed by NFL Insider. Previously, the two sides agreed to explore different trade options while working on a contract restructure. But they couldn’t agree on a deal. In the end, the Packers moved on.
Jaire Alexander became one of the best cornerbacks in the league, however his availability became a concern for the team. In the past four seasons, he missed significant time. In the past two years in 2023 and 2024, he appeared in just seven games each. He also received a Week 17 suspension due to “conduct detrimental to the team.”
Due to a shoulder injury in 2021, he was only able to play four games for the team. However, in 2022, he returned to the team and earned his second-team all-pro honors. It reaffirmed his status as one of the best defensive backs when healthy and playing.
He has been playing for seven seasons for the Packers and has an impeccable record. Alexander totaled 12 interceptions, 70 passes defensed, and 287 tackles over 78 games for the Packers. In 2022, Green Bay signed him for a $84 million four-year extension. It made him the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL for a brief moment.
Now that he is released by the Green Bay Packers, he can find similar interest in the free agent market. After all, he is just 28 years old and still has his best years to come.
The Green Bay Packers selected Alexander with the no. 18 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Packers has been his home for the past seven years. The fans will surely miss him.
