The Atlanta Braves are suffering from more injuries to star players this season. All-Star pitch Max Fried was placed on the injured list with forearm neuritis. As if this was not enough, the Braves suffered the loss of another player. The second baseman Ozzie Albies suffered a left wrist injury trying to apply a tag in the ninth inning of Sunday’s loss.
The Brave lost more than a match against the Cardinals on Sunday. Albies suffered an injury on the field and the team announced the news of a fracture in his wrist after the match.
The Braves announced that the star player will miss approximately eight weeks. So, he would return to the field sometime in mid-September.
He also missed 10 days in April due to a toe fracture. When he entered the field on Sunday, he was with a .255/.308/.403 line and eight home runs in 89 games.
The Braves have not announced the corresponding move for Albies, however, if Mark Bowman from MLB.com is to be believed, they will call up Triple-A Gwinnett infielder Nacho Alvarez Jr.
Alvarez, a promising prospect, has a 1.007 OPS with seven home runs and 24 RBIs in 28 games for Stripers. He is rated Atlanta’s No. 5 for the MLB pipeline.
Meanwhile, Fried acknowledged he felt some discomfort while warming up to pitch in Tuesday’s All-Star Game. Still, he walked a batter and threw 10 pitches in his inning. However, he had to get some tests done to check out the issue, and upon inspection, it was found to be forearm neuritis. Now, he will be out for some time.
On the Fried injured list placement, the corresponding move from Atlanta was to recall left-hander Dylan Dodd.
