The winning streak of the New York Knicks continues even in the NBA finals.
In Game 1, Jalen Brunson scored 30 points, and Karl-Anthony Towns finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds. With this effort, the Knicks erased a 14-point second-half deficit to beat the San Antonio Spurs by 105-95.
OG Anunoby contributed 17 points to the New York Knicks’ victory. With this win, the Knicks have won 12 consecutive playoff games and have become the seventh team to achieve this in NBA history. They also became the third team to do that in a single season. Brunson alone scored 13 points in the fourth quarter.
Here is what New York Knicks coach said about Jalen Brunson. “He’s a gamer, man. In the biggest moments, he shows up. That’s what MVPs are supposed to do.”
The Knicks made more history by beating the Spurs in Game 1 of the title series. They became the first team to do that. Spurs had a record of 6-0 in those matches.
When talking about a single-season playoff winning streak, Golden State holds the record with 15 straight games in the 2017 season. San Antonio won 12 straight in 1999 with its way of winning the title. Now, New York has 12 wins.
“I think we know what we have to do,” said Brunson. “I think we’re a pretty together group.”
For the Spurs, Victor Wembanyama scored 26 points with 12 rebounds. Apart from him, Stephon Castle scored 17, while Julian Champagnie and Dylan Harper each had 16 for San Antonio.
Wembanyama was not happy with his performance in the game. He said, “I was bad tonight. It’s not more complicated than that.”
