During the second game of the Border Gavaskar trophy there was an incident that involved Mohammed Siraj and Travis Head. Siraj initiated the scuffle after Head got out on his bowling.
Now the international Cricket Council has announced sanctions on both Mohammad Siraj and Travis Head. Siraj was fined 20% match fees while head avoided the financial reprimand.
Both players were also handed one demerit point each under the ICC code of conduct. This is their first offence in the last 24 months. The intensity of exchange was at its peak however the ICC decided not to suspend them.
On the third day of the second test Siraj dismissed Head after being hit for a 6 on the previous delivery. The Indian speedster bowled the perfect yorker to knock the stumps to dismiss Head. There was an aggressive send off after the dismissal by Siraj. This sparked a verbal exchange between the two.
The hometown crowd at Adelaide wasn’t happy with the treatment of their star batter. They started booing Siraj in the match relentlessly. This led to a heated exchange between the two.
Both players got away with only a fine and one demerit point each. ICC didn’t give them harsher punishment for their contact as this was their first incident in 24 months.
Siraj was found guilty of violating article 2.5 of ICC code of conduct. While Head was sanctioned under article 2.13.
