Mario Edwards, one of the key players of Houston Texans, was found guilty of substance abuse and was handed down a four-game suspension.
In Sunday’s game, he was a part of the critical play against their crucial victory against the New England Patriots. He recovered from a fumble to spoil the debut of rookie quarterback Drake Maye. The veteran defensive end will not be able to participate in games for a month now.
The NFL announced on Monday that he’s been suspended four games for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
The veteran has been a full-time starter for coach DeMeco Ryans’ defensive front this year. He helped fill the void left by Denico Autry when he was suspended for six games. Denico just completed his suspension which stemmed from a violation of the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy.
Since then, Edwards has been a good team player with two sacks and two tackles for loss in six starts to open 2024. After this ban, he will be able to return to the fold in week 11. At that time, the Texans are scheduled to visit the Dallas Cowboys on Nov 18.
When talking about his career, this is the second time has been handed a suspension. In 2021, he was docked for two games in violation of the performance-enhancing drug policy when he played against the Chicago Bears.
Edwards was drafted in 2015 by the Las Vegas Raiders. He was their second-round pick. Since then, he has been with many teams. This is his eighth team.
He signed with the Texans this offseason after a 2023 season with the Seattle Seahawks.
