The Club’s senior executives will recommend Michael Carrick to become the permanent boss of Manchester United. He has been the top choice for the post since he secured the qualification for next season’s Champions League as a caretaker head coach.
Many experts and fans want former United midfielder Carrick, 44, to continue with this job as he has proven his worth in his temporary phase.
Ruben Amorim was sacked in January this year from the head coach position. Since then, United has delayed the decision to appoint a new head coach until the end of the season.
According to reports, chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox are considering Carrick as the right man for the job. They will convey their decision to Ratcliffe this week.
If the minority shareholder Ratcliffe agrees to it, they will start the proceedings of talking to Carrick about the job.
Since he took charge of United on a temporary basis, he has won 10 of the 15 matches. He only lost two games and has taken United from seventh to third place in the Premier League points table. It also secured their return to the Champions League.
Since his appointment, no other Premier League club has won more points than United (33).
During his reign, the team won the tough matches against title contenders Manchester City and Arsenal. He also won the first four matches as the caretaker of United.
With him at the helm, United had a seven-game winning streak that was broken in March. However, key victories over Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Liverpool helped the team secure a return to the Champions League.
When Amorim left or was dismissed, the Man United team was in disarray and had poor results. However, Carrick made a positive change in the team’s environment and morale. He has been praised internally for his commitment to Manchester United’s youth development programme.
United may also be looking at other options. However, England boss Thomas Tuchel has decided to stay where he is. And Luis Enrique remains committed to PSG.
