Kane Williamson, the former New Zealand captain, has signed a multi-year deal with Middlesex for the upcoming English summer. He will play for a London-based club in the T20 Blast and County Championship.
This will be his third County stint after playing for Gloucestershire between 2011-12 and Yorkshire between 2013-2018.
For the T20 Blast, he will be available for the last 10 matches out of the 14, Middlesex will play in the tournament. He will also be available for at least five county championship matches in the second half of the season. Before all this, he will also take part in the Hundred tournament and play for London Spirit. So, from May to September, Lord’s Cricket Ground will be his home ground.
In the 2024 County Championship Middlesex finished third in Division Two. This year, they will aim to get a higher position as they have secured the services of Kane Williamson. They didn’t play well in the recent Vitality Blast as well and finished eight out of nine teams in the South Group.
Williamson is happy that he has signed a contract with Middlesex. He said that the club has a rich heritage and is looking forward to playing County cricket after a long time.
“I’ve played a bit of county cricket in the past, but not for a number of years now, so when this opportunity arose with Middlesex it was a really exciting prospect.
“To be able to play for Middlesex – a fine club with a rich heritage – is really exciting and something that I’m really looking forward to being a part of. To play at Lord’s, the Home of Cricket – which is one of my favorite grounds in the world for so many different reasons – is something I’m especially looking forward to also.”
Alan Coleman, the Director of Cricket at Middlesex, is also excited about signing Williamson for the upcoming season. He is also eager to witness the positive impact Williamson will have on the squad.
“We are hugely excited about Kane joining Middlesex this summer and are looking forward to him making a positive impact in both our Blast and Championship campaigns.
“To have secured one of the most talented players in the world game is a real coup, and we can’t wait to welcome him to Lord’s and to see him heading out with the three Seaxes on his chest.”
