Jerry Jones says Cowboys couldn’t afford Derrick Henry

Derrick Henry was interested in making the Dallas Cowboys his permanent home if they wished. Derrick Henry trains at the Dallas Cowboys during his offseason.

It was much closer to happening than many people think. However, it all came down to a single issue, finances. The team owner Jerry Jones has said that his team couldn’t afford the four-time Pro Baller.

When the Dallas Cowboys deal didn’t materialize, he signed with the Ravens. Now, he is in top shape, and he showed that perfectly on Sunday. He rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns in Baltimore’s 28-25 win at AT&T Stadium. Watching him perform like that, Jones might be thinking that it should’ve worked out for the team.

After taking in two losses, team owner Jones explained why Derrick wasn’t with them this season. He said.

“We couldn’t afford Derrick Henry.” When asked “why not?” He laughed and said, “I don’t know. Why can’t you buy a mansion when you live in a different kind of house? We couldn’t afford it. We can’t make that all fit. That’s as simple as that.”

Derrick signed a two-year deal with the Ravens at $16 million. Previously he was with the Tennessee Titans for eight years.

The Cowboys lack a solid running back as they lost Tony Pollard.

For the same area, Jerry commented.

“I wouldn’t direct the running game and lack thereof or where we’ve been over the last three games to any one running back at all, because it takes some offensive linemen to blow them out of there; it takes a passing game to keep them honest in the running game. It takes a lot of things to make that work. This wouldn’t be solved with just jumping over there and getting Jimmy Brown.”
