As expected, the much-anticipated five-match T20I series between England and India began at the Banks Homes Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street, Durham. As much as the Indian batsmen showed an explosive batting performance, the unmanageable British weather conditions decided the fate of the day. Rain started pouring immediately after the first innings ended, and the match was called off without England bowling a single ball.
Rough Start for the Men In Blue
India won the toss and chose to bat first in the hope of bouncing back after losing to Ireland in the recently concluded series. But things were not going well for the Indian team.
Saqib Mahmood got rid of Sanju Samson cheaply for just one run. In the next instant, there was a shocking blunder in the fielding circle, which saw Ishan Kishan get run out without even scoring a run.
Dynamic Counter Attack
The dynamic counterattack was led by a young left-handed batsman named Abhishek Sharma, who teamed up with their new captain, Shreyas Iyer, and delivered an incredible batting performance.
Abhishek attacked the bowlers from England by scoring an explosive half-century of 59 runs from just 24 balls with 6 fours and 4 sixes until he was LBW to Sam Curran. The pair added up to a quickfire partnership of 82 runs for the third wicket.
Indian captain, Shreyas Iyer, delivered an amazing innings with an excellent score of 68 runs in 47 balls with 6 fours and a six before he was dismissed by Mahmood. Finally, towards the end, their finisher Shivam Dube scored a very impressive score of 42 runs from just 21 balls to reach 189/7

After the first game of the series in Durham ended in frustration in a “No Result,” both sides will now head to Manchester, where they will play their second T20I on July 4.
