Georgia Tech made a historic splash in the recruiting program history by receiving a commitment from five-star lineman Josh Petty.
He was the No. 2 offensive tackle in the 2025 class of athletes. He is the first five-star to announce his pledge to the Yellow Jackets in the modern era.
This news comes from 247Sports, according to them, he is also the second highest-rated recruit ever to commit to Georgia Tech. The program legend Calvin Johnson is the other one. He chose Georgia Tech over the reported 40 offers from other programs.
Petty visited the likes of Florida State, Ohio State, and Tennessee over the summer to get a look and feel of the places. But in the end, he decided to choose Georgia Tech to stay close to his home.
Here is what he told 247Sports.
“I want to thank them [Georgia Tech] for their consistency. They were there from the beginning. They were my first offer. They were so consistent with texting me and calling me. They were so consistent. It’s been impressive”.
Georgia Tech is also able to attract more in-state talent. He is the third prospect from the state of Georgia with at least a four-star rating to commit to the Yellow Jackets during the 2025 cycle.
Georgia Tech also signed two similar prospects in 2024, including cycle’s no. 9 Luke Harping from Atlanta. That signing took their recruiting ranking to 33, the highest finish for the program since 2020.
Now, with Petty this year, they will be able to finish in the top 25, a first for them since 2007.
