Davis Thompson bags his first career victory on the PGA Tour at the 2024 John Deere Classic. The 25-year-old shot 7-under par 64 to win the prestigious event on Sunday at Silvis, Illinois.

He finished with a tournament record 28-under 256 for a four-shot victory on a trio of contenders, breaking away from a two-shot lead from the beginning of the day to leading by six shots.

Thompson shot 63-67-62-64 to win the event by four strokes.

Luke Clanton shot 63 to become the first amateur to record top 10 positions in consecutive weeks on the PGA Tour since 1958. He finished second and tied with two other gentlemen Michael Thorbjornsen (63) and Taiwan’s CT Pan (64).

Ben Griffin produced the best results of the day with 62 to finish at 23 under. He was placed fifth with Carson Young (63).

By the midway of the tournament, it became clear that we would have a new first-time winner on the PGA Tour. Griffin, Young, Thorbjornsen, Clanton, McCarthy, Novak, and Springer were also in contention and seeking their first PGA Tour title. However, the lead of Davis Thompson was too large and the rest of the players couldn’t catch up.

Thompson is a former University of Georgia golfer who was in contention in recent weeks. Last week, he was tied for second place at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. He also finished in ninth place in last month’s US Open.

He recorded seven birdies on seven of the first ten holes of the final round at TPC Deere Run to gain a six-shot lead. And another birdie on No. 14 took his lead to four shots. In the end, he clinched the PGA tour.
