The Dallas Mavericks are bringing back a top star to their camp. They’re signing veteran guard Spencer Dinwiddie to a one-year deal. The Athletic reported this.

The superstar spent his last season with the Nets and Lakers and will now join the team he was with, in 2022. He helped the Dallas Mavericks to get to the Western Conference finals.

The Mavericks had reported interest in Dinwiddie, Dennis Smith Jr., and Talen Horton-Tucker, but Dinwiddie was the front-runner among these players.

In 2023, he was traded from the Mavericks to the Brooklyn Nets as part of the deal that brought Kyrie Irving to Dallas. He was then traded to Toronto from Brooklyn. Then he chose the Lakers to play for. Now, it looks like he’ll be rejoining the team that was like a home to him. He had the most successful sting with the Dallas Mavericks.

When he was with the Dallas Mavericks, he averaged 15.8 points on 49.8% from the field off the bench. In the postseason, he was averaging 14.2 points on 41.7% from 3-point range. So, from the looks of it, he will be the perfect fit for the Dallas Mavericks team.

So, Dinwiddie gives the Mavericks another guard who can create off the bench. It is something that Dallas needs. However, we are unsure how much of a role he will play for the team. The ascension of young guard Jaden Hardy in the playoffs and the addition of Quentin Grimes and Dante Exum on the roster can also diminish his role.

Exum and Grimes give the team more defense than Dinwiddie could provide. So, it looks like it will be tough for Dinwiddie to get minutes next season. However, the team will have the confidence that they have a player of Dinwiddie’s caliber on the bench and they can use him whenever required.
