Conor McGregor is slated to make his much-anticipated return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) for the first time in five years. He will take on Max Holloway in a non-title rematch. The fight will take place on July 11 at UFC 329 in Las Vegas.
McGregor is a former two-weight champion and one of the UFC’s most high-profile fighters we’ve seen ever. However, he has not fought since he broke his leg in a loss to Dustin Poirier on July 10th, 2021.
Now, he will fight against Max Holloway, an opponent he fought before in 2013. It will be a rematch of his second UFC fight, where he defeated Max in Boston. He also suffered a torn knee ligament in that fight.
The 37-year-old was supposed to make a comeback in 2024, but had to withdraw due to a toe injury.
Apart from the injuries inside the cage, he has also faced issues outside.
In 2024, he was ordered to pay $250,000 in damages to a woman who accused him of rape in Ireland.
In December, he was accused of sexually assaulting a woman at an NBA Game in Miami. She dropped the civil lawsuit after authorities declined to pursue criminal charges.
Just about a month before, he was suspended for 18 months after missing three drug tests within a 12-month period. However, Combat Sports Anti-Doping reduced the length of the sentence, stating that Conor had cooperated with their investigation.
The UFC announced the match during the first MMA promotion of Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions outfit.
